Human trafficking is a form
of modern-day slavery. It is the illegal trade in human beings through
abduction, the use or threat of force, deception, fraud, or sale for the
purposes of sexual exploitation or forced labor.
Every year, children,
teenagers, men and women from all over the world are transported within or
across borders and forced to work in prostitution, the sex entertainment
industry, domestic servitude, sweatshops, restaurant work, migrant agricultural
work, and many other industries.
Human trafficking is a multinational organized
criminal industry that generates billions of dollars a year (over $32 Billion is
the latest estimate.)
 According to various studies there are an estimated 27-30
MILLION people enslaved throughout the world today, 80% women and 50% children. This industry is one of the fastest growing criminal enterprises in the world today and safer than selling weapons or drugs...you can re-sell a human over and over and over again. An estimated $32 BILLION dollars a year is made from the sale of humans.
Up to 2 MILLION CHILDREN are trafficked yearly for SEX (with
THOUSANDS of America's teens at risk) as well as being used in child pornography. 14,500-17,500 people
are trafficked into, and throughout, the United States from foreign countries every year for labor and the sex industry. This does not include ones already here OR the homeless teens and adults (U.S. citizens) that get sucked into an existance far, FAR worse than sleeping under a bridge.
Abused CHILD SLAVES are laboring 80-100 hours per week to produce the world's coffee, cocoa and chocolate. They are beaten, are barely fed and live like animals. Only
1% of coffee today is FairTrade...the rest comes at an extremely high
price...for the workers who hand-pick coffee beans grown on plantations that use toxic chemicals and pesticides.
 This UGLY truth is what's behind that lovely morning aroma and your afternoon chocolate bar. Slave labor is something large corporations (like Folgers, Nestle, Maxwell House, Hershey, etc.) do NOT want you to know about.
These are the
shocking numbers about modern day slavery!!! Even if we dropped the
estimates by a whopping 90% (because accurate estimates are hard to come
by due to the hidden and criminal nature of trafficking), the numbers
are far TOO HIGH. This drastic estimate cut STILL leaves MILLIONS
of slaves throughout the world!
Labor slavery and sex trafficking is
occurring TODAY in the United States...and thousands of AMERICAN teens
at risk. FOUR MILLION slaves were released after the Civil
War...HOW did slavery rise up again IN THE USA? In THIS
generation? In OUR backyard?
